A BALANCED BRAIN.
Embrace Your Self; Not Brace Yourself.
What’s the point of being a little bit out of control?
And why only a little bit? (Why not a lot?)
And is this possible to achieve holistically and without medication?
Yes. It absolutely is.
The ADHD brain is searching for optimal stimulation, all of the time. The higher the stimulation, the bigger the dopamine release.
I want to swing by the science, detour the drugs and take you right to what helps and when.
Dopamine Hits:
Dopamine hits, or kicks - or whatever you wish to call them - are the things your brain craves and seeks out (for want of a better word).
Intense reward - the more extreme, the bigger the boost.
The most exciting part about this journey is working out what your favourite ones are, and what constitutes as high and low, long and short, for you.
We really mustn’t see them all as bad...and you know why we see them as bad?
Because we like big stimulation; but this means being noticed; which (based on the limiting beliefs of old societal-norms) equals = “not so loud Elizabeth,” “try sitting still Lizzie,” “that’s an awful lot of things you’re doing - perhaps just focus on one?”.
*I am NOT anti-medication, and I am NOT suggesting or condoning the use of dangerous dopamine hits - such as alcohol, drugs and high-adrenaline irresponsibility.
